Illnesses that are Common in Dogs
Dogs have always been part of our lives and because of that they are very important to us. Most pet owners treat their dog as one of the family and that is as it should be. These days people make it a regular thing to go to the doctors for check ups. It saves there being any nasty surprises for us later down the road. Both to our pocket book and of course our ongoing health. Well your pet is no different, there are lots of illnesses that are common in dogs. He needs regular visits to the vet to check out his health as well. Emergency vet bills can be expensive and they could possibly have been avoided.
You will remember that when your dog was young he had to receive a course of shots. Well to remain in good health and to aid him fight off many of these canine illnesses he will still require regular shots throughout his life. If he does not get them he is at risk to contract any of these diseases.
A quite common problem with dogs is ear mites. This type of infestation is very unpleasant for the dog. They can be controlled very easily though. A quick visit to the vet and some medication and a few days later all will be well again.
Fleas and Ticks are also very common. They should be treated right away and again, your vet will be able to tell you how bad the situation is and then provide the necessary treatment.
One illness that is common to dogs is worms. By themselves they are not really an illness, but if left untreated your dog can become very ill and possibly even die from certain types of worm. Regular treatment is a must for this. Your vet can advise on the best medication.
Without his teeth a dog is in dire trouble. You must maintain your dog’s dental health. This can even mean you have to brush his teeth regularly. If you are worried about how to do this properly, pay a visit to your dentist and ask him to demonstrate exactly how to do it. Bacteria that gathers in the dog’s mouth and on unclean teeth is not good for his health.
As we said at the beginning because there are numerous ailments common to dogs, you must take the responsibility and take care of him. He cannot do this without you. Try to prevent a problem before it occurs. Look after your pet and give him the regular medical check ups that he needs. He can then look forward to a happy and healthy life.
Illnesses that are common in dogs may seem only minor, but sometimes they can lead to more serious things if they are not treated in time. Vets are the exact same as doctors, their job is to try and diagnose these problems before they can become serious.
