Advantages Of Being A Sole Parent
We all know of the pitfulls when it comes to sole parents, there seems to be a stigma attached to it and if you're a young single mum well it seems you're in an even worse position, what so many seem to forget is that it doesn't matter how young or old a person is when it comes to being a parent it's how they raise their children that matters.
As a single mum I know of many of the hardships faced, from the financial difficulties to trying to get my kids to different events that all seem to happen at the same time yet in vastly different areas and while I will admit to struggling occasionally I'll also be the first to tell you that I wouln't change a thing.
I thing one big factor to raising your chldren as a sole parent is that the children often seem to become more self-reliant and are generally prepared to offer that little extra help around the house - while that may not always be the case, many kids of sole parents realise that they need to put in some effort to help their parent maintain their home etc - particularly if the parent is working full or part time.
Whether you have one child or several as a single mum or dad it seems we often strive even harder to make sure we have that little extra one on one time with our kids, that's not to stay that two parent families don't spend the time with the children, but as a single parent we tend to make sure we put a set amount of time aside for each of our chldren even if it's just to touch base with them.
While it's not necessarily a good thing, for many single parents only having to rely on the one desicion when it comes to discipline etc can often make things easier as the ground rules can be set and maintained without the need to change the terms on a regular basis etc.
There are of course many other advantages to being a sole parent (along with disadvantages) but they are a couple of the main ones.
